I am a high school librarian and have the same concerns regarding catalogs and subscription databases; they require too many clicks to get to, controlled vocabulary that most people don't use when searching search engines and most of all too little success. They can use a search engine, type their terms and get zillion of hits, now that makes them feel successful. If the answer is not there a librarian is near to provide the answer. The whole publishing industry as well as library software providers better wake up! Any online bookstore does a better job of locating books that I need or want.

I've since removed all my "daily del.icio.us" links, as they were getting annoying. I bookmark way too much in del.icio.us. In replacement, I added a list of the last 5 items I've added to del.icio.us in the sidebar, in case anyone is actually interested in what I'm adding to del.icio.us.

I love Jane to pieces, but how could she not jump onboard with "Pimp My OPAC?" Who wouldn't want to go to that? So often, she ends up with the least appealing presentation titles imaginable, which is a shame. I'll be speaking on...wait for it..."Searching the New Digital Formats." Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee! See ya in Monterey.
